Intraocular
(Harder, 2012)
Floating in and out of my sight
You occasionally surprise me
Every time I look and stare
In the direction of light
And every place that I go
Your face is plastered on walls
Like a tease you impose
With insurmountable force
Illusions that won’t erode.
You’re intraocular, dear.
And you just won’t disappear.
You’re intraocular, dear.
Intangibly near.
I think I just might have to refract
(And that’s a natural fact)
When you’re the only light
That pierces through this viscous black.
And you may not even notice
that everyone knows this.
Illuminating the night
As I close my eyes.
In dreams, I’m never blind.
“Tell me what you see Tell me honestly.
That in light of all of this, you expect opportunity.”
